Type Locality and Naming

Along the Suffe River, southern slope of the Gissar Range. F.R. Bensh, 1969 (457, pp. 52-62). Stratotype in the lower reaches of the Suffe River, above the village of Trushoag.

Synonym: Suffinskaya Suite, Суффинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Interbedding of flaggy cherts, claystone (argillites) with horizons of tuff-siltstone (aleurolites), "goniatite" limestones. Thickness 650 to 1200 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformably overlies, locally transgressively, the Vakhshivar Fm. According to M. Nigmatjanov, it conformably overlies the Badavin Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain, locally with erosion, by the Sagdor Fm.

Regional extent

Gissar Range, basins of the Tupolang, Shirkent, Karatag, Khanaka, Lyuchob, Varzob, southern Surkhan-Tau, northern Baysun-Tau, Karasan and Susyztau mountains.

Contains foraminifers - Asteroarchaediscus baschciricus (Krest. et Theod.), Ammodiscus multivolutus Reitl., Semistaffella variabilis Reitl., Pseudostaffella antiqua (Dutk.); conodonts - Declinognathodus noduliferus El. et Gr., Idiognathoides sinuatus H.

Belongs to the Lower substage of the Bashkirian stage of the Middle Carboniferous. (165; 439; 460).
